Since 2019 Gerlin Heestermans has been documenting and exploring modernist architecture in Belgium under the name Toerist Modernist, now a non-profit. Rather than an academic approach, Gerlin finds it important to keep her work as accessible as possible; by sharing photos on Instagram, by organising interior visits, by curating walking routes etc. This also highlights the importance of the personal, as it\u2019s the inhabitants who keep this architecture alive. In time, Toerist Modernist has assembled an informal network of likeminded owners, alongside a community of fellow modernism lovers.<\/p>\n

Od roku 2019 Gerlin Heestermans dokumentuje a zkoum\u00e1 modernistickou architekturu v Belgii pod n\u00e1zvem Toerist Modernist, kter\u00fd je nyn\u00ed neziskovou organizac\u00ed. Sp\u00ed\u0161e ne\u017e akademick\u00fd p\u0159\u00edstup pova\u017euje Gerlin za d\u016fle\u017eit\u00e9, aby jej\u00ed pr\u00e1ce byla co nejp\u0159\u00edstupn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed; sd\u00edlen\u00edm fotografi\u00ed na Instagramu, organizov\u00e1n\u00edm n\u00e1v\u0161t\u011bv interi\u00e9r\u016f, kur\u00e1torstv\u00edm p\u011b\u0161\u00edch tras atd. T\u00edm tak\u00e9 zd\u016fraz\u0148uje d\u016fle\u017eitost osobn\u00edho p\u0159\u00edstupu, proto\u017ee jsou to pr\u00e1v\u011b obyvatel\u00e9, kte\u0159\u00ed tuto architekturu udr\u017euj\u00ed p\u0159i \u017eivot\u011b. Toerist Modernist \u010dasem shrom\u00e1\u017edil neform\u00e1ln\u00ed s\u00ed\u0165 podobn\u011b sm\u00fd\u0161lej\u00edc\u00edch majitel\u016f spolu s komunitou koleg\u016f milovn\u00edk\u016f modernismu.<\/p>\n

The aesthetics of modernism have long been a fascination and source of delight for Gerlin, and this only grew stronger when she learnt more about the movement during her art history studies. A few years later, she was taken on an architecture tour in Brussels by a friend, and was amazed by the many unknown modernist dwellings they discovered. This led to Gerlin\u2019s new mission: to explore and document this heritage all over Belgium, highlighting the many original features that still remain. It was immediately apparent why this was (and still is) an urgent undertaking, as so many of these are under threat of demolition or renovation. The project became a non profit under the name Toerist Modernist and its output includes walking guides, photography, interior visits, location hunting and more.<\/p>\n

Estetika modernismu Gerlin fascinuje a t\u011b\u0161\u00ed u\u017e dlouho, a kdy\u017e se b\u011bhem studia d\u011bjin um\u011bn\u00ed o tomto hnut\u00ed dozv\u011bd\u011bla v\u00edce, jej\u00ed nad\u0161en\u00ed je\u0161t\u011b zes\u00edlilo. O n\u011bkolik let pozd\u011bji se s p\u0159\u00edtelem vydala na architektonickou exkurzi do Bruselu a byla ohromena mno\u017estv\u00edm nezn\u00e1m\u00fdch modernistick\u00fdch obydl\u00ed, kter\u00e1 objevili. To vedlo k Gerlinin\u011b nov\u00e9 misi: prozkoumat a zdokumentovat toto d\u011bdictv\u00ed po cel\u00e9 Belgii a upozornit na mnoho p\u016fvodn\u00edch prvk\u016f, kter\u00e9 se st\u00e1le zachovaly. Okam\u017eit\u011b bylo jasn\u00e9, pro\u010d to byl (a st\u00e1le je) nal\u00e9hav\u00fd \u00fakol, proto\u017ee tolika z nich hroz\u00ed demolice nebo rekonstrukce. Projekt se stal neziskovou organizac\u00ed pod n\u00e1zvem Toerist Modernist a jeho v\u00fdstupem jsou p\u011b\u0161\u00ed pr\u016fvodci, fotografie, n\u00e1v\u0161t\u011bvy interi\u00e9r\u016f, vyhled\u00e1v\u00e1n\u00ed lokalit a dal\u0161\u00ed.<\/p>\n
