Past Told, Future Held – A Doctoral Exhibition by Petra Widžová

The exhibition Past Told, Future Held takes you behind the scenes of caring for artistic estates (and in some cases, future ones). A four-part video series presented at the exhibition explores how to narrate the daily challenges and tasks, the energy, and the time required to cultivate the legacies of great names in the Czech art scene. What are the limits of this work, and what is truly most important to preserve for the future?

Opening: March 12 at 6:00 PM, Venue: Industra Gallery, Lazaretní 925/9, 615 00 Brno-Židenice

The exhibition runs until April 26, 2026.

The videos feature:

  • Martina Zetová (estate of Miloš Zet)

  • Kateřina Trlifajová and Magdaléna Plíšková (estate of Pavel Brázda)

  • The Vašulka Kitchen Brno team (legacy of Steina and Woody Vašulka)

  • Jana Písaříková and Jiří Valoch (care for Jiří Valoch and the Jiří Valoch Archive and Collection)

The exhibition is based on Petra Widžová’s doctoral research at FUD UJEP, which she has been conducting since 2023, focusing on the management of artistic estates in the Czech context (supervised by doc. Mgr. Anna Vartecká, Ph.D.). Between 2024 and 2026, the research was supported by a multi-year grant from the UJEP Student Grant Competition.
